Thin, tooth-shaped shells of porcelain known as veneers are like an all-in-one tool for cosmetic dentistry. These restorations can be used to address a wide variety of deficits in patient’s smile. Furthermore, veneers are customized so that they have a natural look, blending in with the rest of your smile.
Veneers typically require at least two appointments with your dentist, but in comparison to some other restorative treatments, the treatment timeline is fairly short. Most patients can get their veneers in a matter of weeks.
How Veneers Can Help Improve An Unattractive Smile
Porcelain veneers are bonded atop a patient’s biological teeth, and they can be used to conceal just about any dental defect you could think of, including:
- Deep stains that don’t respond to teeth whitening treatments
- Chips or cracks in the teeth
- Slightly crooked teeth
- Undersized teeth
As you can see, veneers are a very useful tool for your dentist to enhance your smile.
Because veneers are made of porcelain, which shares a number of optical qualities with biological tooth enamel, this treatment results in a remarkably natural look. Veneers are made even more lifelike in appearance by being designed to match your unique smile.
What To Expect From The Veneer Treatment Process
Not only are porcelain veneers useful in many scenarios, but they don’t require a substantial amount of time to improve the patient’s smile.
The first step in the veneer treatment process is the initial consultation. At that session, your provider will examine your smile and may take photos, x-rays, dental impressions or measurements as needed to determine the design of your veneers.
Depending on the veneers’ thickness, your teeth may need to be prepped before they can be bonded to the tooth’s surface. This involves removing a thin layer of enamel to make room for the veneers.
When the veneers are ready a few weeks later, you’ll return to the office to have them bonded to your teeth. If you would like further adjustments to them, let us know before we place them. After the veneers are on your teeth, they can no longer be altered.
